Introduction to DoT OSP License

  • OSP, or other service providers, refers to a business that offers services to the telecom sector and makes use of telecom resources.
  • This licence is required for any business that offers "Applications Services," such as telebanking, telemedicine, teleeducation, teletrading, online shopping, call centres, network operation centres, and other IT-enabled services, using telecom resources from authorised telecom service providers.
  • You must submit an application for the DoT and OSP licence, which are issued by the department of telecommunication, if you wish to launch a BPO firm in India.
  • The DoT grants licences for contact centres and BPOs and permits these operations by evaluating the non-telecom service provider's infrastructure.
  • Every licence requires a distinct OSP License because the DoT OSP License is location-specific. You can submit an application for a second site after the first licence has been granted.

  • General Terms and Conditions for OSP Registration:

  • Any business may be registered to offer application services.
  • The companies that are eligible for OSP registration must be ones that are recognised under the 1956 Indian Companies Act.
  • A Company may submit an application for registration to the Authority using the proforma set forth from time to time by the Authority. (List of annexures to the application form from the authority).

  • Board resolution or Power of Attorney with certified signatures appointing the designated signatory
  • Business and activity types of the proposed OSP

  • Any of the company's directors, the company secretary, the statutory auditors, or a public notary must certify all documents with their official seal.

OSP Compliance Validity

Unless specifically stated on the registration letter, the licence is valid for 20 years from the date of issue. Within six months of the end of the financial year, the OSP must submit a "Annual Return" to the registering authority in the required Performa, including the details of the preceding financial year's operations and the status of their continued OSP operation. The Active OSP list must contain the functioning OSPs. Those OSPs whose annual returns have gone unfiled for three consecutive years will be placed on a dormant list, and after two years, their registration will be terminated. The DOT website would make this list accessible.
