What is a Factory License

  • Trade is the act of passing products and services from one person or organisation to another in exchange for cash. Manufacturing is the process of creating a product in a specific way.
  • A person or group that intends to launch a new business must get a factory or trade licence.
  • A factory or trade licence is used to enforce particular business regulations in a given locale. It is intended to make sure that faulty manufacturing or trade practices do not pose a serious health risk to the populace. It also serves to determine whether or not the business is operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and safety guidelines.
  • The State government has established rules for factory/trade licences to oversee, check, and control the trade in a city.
  • The municipal corporation of the state where the firm is located issues factory/trade licences.
  • A factory/trade licence allowed a person or company to conduct trade or business at the location for which it was issued.
  • Any unlicensed exchange of goods or services between two parties is unlawful and could subject the company to harsh fines. Before beginning any manufacturing or trading operations, the business owners must apply for a factory/trade licence.
  • Any trading activity must start with the submission of an application. Some state governments provide applicants between 15 and 3 months to apply for a trade licence.
  • Once granted, a trade licence needs to be renewed periodically on an annual basis. The licence must be renewed at least 30 days before the licence holder's expiration date.
