ISI Registration Overview

In January 1947, the Indian Standards Institution (ISI), India's national standards authority at the time, was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Its goal was to create and support standards for the Indian manufacturing sector. The Indian Standards Institution (Certification Marks) Act eventually broadened its application to cover Product Certification activities.
After it was decided that it was acceptable to give ISI's operations legislative character, the BIS Act 1986 was passed in the middle of the 1980s. In order to ease the cooperative production of standardization and quality certification of products with clearly outlined procedural protections, the Indian Standards Institute (ISI) was renamed as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

ISI Registration Process

Product Testing :

The product that needs an ISI licence must undergo testing in any BIS-recognized lab in accordance with the specified Indian Standard. Any BIS-recognized lab must receive the test request created from the manak online portal for the specified standard.

The lab produced the test report after conducting each test in accordance with the parameters outlined in the Indian standard. The LAB posts the identical reports on the Manak online application portal, where the applicant submits their application.

Application filling :

The applicant can complete the application form with regard to the test report created once the lab has posted the test reports to the Manak online portal. Along with all the information requested in the online application, it is necessary to upload all the mandatory papers as outlined by the department in the appropriate places. The applicant must pay the appropriate fees to the department in order to submit the file once all the information and supporting documents have been uploaded online.

Department Scrutiny and Inspection :

following the department's receipt of an online application. All of the information and documentation provided by the applicant will be examined and verified by BIS authorities. Along with the test findings, the uploaded test report's authenticity is also examined.

Before the scheduled inspection dates, any clarification or extra documentation that the department might need must be provided. The inspecting officer conducts an on-site factory inspection after the scrutiny officer is satisfied with all the provided documents and information. During this inspection, all the documents are verified in hardcopy and the production and testing process is confirmed.

Grant of License :

Following a successful onsite inspection, the inspecting officer delivers the inspection report and any observations to the certification officer. The certification officer compares the details entered online with those verified during the inspection to confirm accuracy. The applicant receives the final licence in the form of a CM/L (Certification of Manufacturing License) number based on the same.

If the applicant pays the department's marking fees, the manufacturer may use the ISI emblem as a quality assurance marking on its products after the certificate has been granted. The department receives payment in advance for the first year's marking fees. According to the manufacturer's output estimates from the previous year, fees are paid for subsequent years. Additionally, the licence is only good for a year; after that, the applicant must apply for a renewal.

By keeping regular follow-ups with the department and providing prompt responses when any issues are expressed by the department, our operations and liaisoning team makes sure to adhere to the certification process's specified timetable. Additionally, to avoid any questions or re-inspections, our staff assists onsite during factory inspections and makes sure all aspects are in accordance with BIS ISI norms and laws.
