The Marine Products Exports Development Authority

By way of a parliamentary legislation passed in 1972, the MPEDA Authority came into being. The Marine Goods Export Development Authority has the mandate to advance the marine products sector, specifically with regard to exports from the nation.

One of MPEDA's statutory duties under the MPEDA Act of 1972 is the registration of fishing vessels, exporters, and other processing firms.

What is the Need of MPEDA Registration

It is important to register with MPEDA in order to inspect marine products, their raw materials, set standards and specifications, regulate, as well as take all necessary precautions to ensure the quality of seafood that is sold abroad. Under the terms of the MPEDA Act of 1972, exporters must register with the Marine Products Export Development Authority.

Documents required for Manufacturer Exporter Registration

Contact the relevant authority to submit an application for registration as a maritime product manufacturer and exporter. A registration fee of Rs. 200 and an application cost of Rs. 5000 must be included with the application.

Documents Required for Merchant Exporter Registration

A merchant exporter is an exporter whose name has been underwritten on the registration certificate of a processing plant or handling facility but who uses the excess capacity of a processing plant or handling facility but who does not own or run a processing plant or handling facility.

  • Should provide a bank guarantee for up to 15 lakhs over a 5-year period in order to enforce obligation.
  • Merchant Exporter is issued an exporter registration certificate.
  • Letter of agreement for the use of the processing plant's and handling facility's excess capacity.
  • Letter of understanding with the proprietor of the handling facility or processing plant.
 

Route through Merchant Exporter

Route through Merchant Exporter may be through a DGFT-approved Trading House, Star Trading House, Export House, or Super Star Trading House.

Ornamental Fish Exporter

A solely authorised exporter of ornamental fish is one who (Barbs, Danio, and Gourami etc.)

Documents Required for Processing Plants Registration

A processing plant is a structure constructed in accordance with MPEDA-established specifications and Inter Departmental Panel approval. Obtains a registration application form for a processing plant and submits it, along with a registration fee of Rs. 200, to the registering office with authority over the plant's site.

Storage Premises

The Trade Promotion Office with jurisdiction over the location of the Storage Premises must receive the completed application for registration of a storage plant along with the required registration fee of Rs. 200.

Fishing Vessels

A boat or ship used for fishing is a fishing vessel. The responsible authority must receive three copies of the registration form that has been properly filled out. Deck area is shown in the vessel's blueprint or layout.

Conveyance

The concerned authority, whose purview the registration certificate issued by the local Transport Authority is stated, must receive an application form together with a cost of Rs. 1500.

Fresh/Chilled Handling Center

The appropriate body having jurisdiction over the location of the establishment must receive an application registration form and a fee of Rs. 200. Along with the application, a copy of the requirements set forth for a fresh/chilled fish handling facility must be provided.

Premises for Handling Live Fish

The appropriate body having jurisdiction over the location of the establishment must receive application registration forms along with a fee of Rs. 200. With every application, a copy of the guidelines for handling live fish must be included.

Establishment for Handling and Packing of Dried/Salted Marine Products

The appropriate body having jurisdiction over the location of the establishment must receive application registration forms along with a fee of Rs. 200. The application must be accompanied by a copy of the requirements set forth for establishments handling dried/salted marine products.
