EPR Authorization is required for Air-conditioners excluding centralized air conditioning plants. It is the responsibility of Manufacturer and Importer to ensure environmentally sound management of E-waste generated by electrical / electronic products at the end of its life. EPR Authorization is a voluntary but mandatory requirement for registration / listing of imported EEE products with the Ministry. The E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 has come into effect from 1st July, 2016 and it is mandatory on the part of the importer to get EPR authorization from the Central Pollution Control Board for import of EEE products excluded from the scope of RoHS directive. EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility. As per EPR, manufacturer / importer has the responsibility to collect back end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment for environment friendly disposal or recycling as per E-waste (Management) Rules, 2016. Electronic waste or e-waste describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. Used electronics which are destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling or disposal are also considered e-waste. Informal processing of e-waste in developing countries can lead to adverse human health effects and environmental pollution.
