EPR authorization is required for all new types of electrical / electronic products introduced in the market including telephones. EPR is the responsibility of the manufacturer / importer to ensure that the E-waste generated by electrical / electronic products at the end of its life is managed in an environmentally sound manner. EPR covers the entire lifecycle of a product from design, manufacture, use, reuse, recycling to final disposal. EPR schemes are currently operational in many countries and are being implemented in some states of India. EPR will help in reducing the environmental impacts of electrical / electronic products by reducing the use of hazardous substances, promoting reuse and recycling and ensuring safe disposal of E-waste. EPR will also help in creating green jobs and contributing to the circular economy.
